Ambassador Dr. M Mahfuzul Haque

Dr. M Mahfuzul Haque is a Senior Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh. He joined the Bangladesh Mission in Portugal on 29th January 2025. Prior to his posting to Portugal, he served as an Associate Professor in South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) at North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh and taught political science and public administration until September 2024 in undergraduate and master courses.
His career in the Government includes services in the Ministry of Public Administration, Cabinet Division, and in the Ministry of Education as Additional secretary and Joint secretary respectively. He also served as Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner. Furthermore, he served as Deputy Director and Director in Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC), and as Economic Minister in the Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington DC in 2007.
Dr. M Mahfuzul Haque brings with him a wide range of experience and skills in public service delivery and management systems which he feels would greatly benefit his diplomatic role in Portugal Mission.
As far his academic background, he holds a Ph. D from University of Dhaka (2015), under the Department of Public Administration, an M. Phil in Public Administration, University of Bergen, Norway (2003), Post Graduate Diploma Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University, Rotterdam, the Netherlands (1998), Master’s in social science (MSS) in Public Administration, Dhaka University (1981), Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) in Public Administration, Dhaka University(1980), Higher Secondary School Certificate, Rajshahi Cadet College, Sardah, Rajshahi (1976) and Secondary School Certificate, Rajshahi Cadet College, Sardah, Rajshahi (1974).
Dr. Haque is married and has a son.
