Celebrates Bangabandhu’s Birth Anniversary

Lisbon, Thursday 17 March 2022

Bangladesh Embassy in Lisbon celebrated the 102nd Birth Anniversary of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day on Thursday, 17 March 2022 with due fervour and festivity.

The Chancery was decorated with banners, posters and festoons. The officers and the members of staff were in colourful attire.

In the morning, Chargé d'affaires Abdullah Al Razi initiated the day’s programme by ceremonially hoisting the National Flag of Bangladesh at the Chancery premises in presence of all officers and members of staff of the Embassy.

The programme began with the placing of floral wreaths at the mural portrait of the Father of the Nation near main entrance of the Chancery by the officials of the Embassy and leaders of expatriate Bangladesh community. Messages from the Hon’ble President and the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs, released on the occasion, were then read out by the officials.

This was followed by a session of discussion on the life and teachings of Bangabandhu. Speakers emphasized the need of following the principles of Bangabandhu for progress of Bangladesh in the right direction. In his speech, Chargé d'affaires Abdullah Al Razi paid rich tribute to the memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and felicitated children on the occasion of the National Children’s Day. He viewed that the history of independence of Bangladesh is the history of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu, who was born to fight for freedom of the people. Under his valiant leadership, the Bangalees are now citizens of an independent country fighting a nine-month-long bloody war in 1971 at the cost of millions of lives. Bangladesh is well on its way for the realization of ‘Sonar Bangla’ as envisioned by our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.

A video documentary on the life and struggle of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was screened afterwards the discussion session.

The Embassy had earlier invited participation from children and juveniles of expatriate Bangladesh community in Portugal for an art completion in three separate age-groups. Prizes to all the participants were presented towards the end of the programme.

A special prayer was offered for salvation of the departed souls of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the martyred members of his family, martyrs and valiant freedom fighters of the War of Liberation, and for the peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh. The event was rounded off with serving of traditional Bangladeshi food items for all the guests.
